This specimen definitely needs some explaining. As a
general rule tourmaline is most often found in
pegmatites, which are magmatic in nature, or, because of
its resistance to chemical weathering, in sedimentary
deposits as an admixture to the base material. However,
its occurance in metamorphic rocks is comparatively rare
in light of the frequency with which it is found in other
sources. Nevertheless, here, strangely enough, we have a
cluster of black tourmaline crystals growing within a
schist matrix, which under normal circumstances is highly
unprobable yet not entirely impossible, as is evidenced
by this remarkable specimen.
